Islamic Relief 25th Anniversary Photo Competition

Islamic Relief is celebrating 25 years as one of the UKs leading charities. The charity has been at the forefront of a worldwide charity disaster response, co-ordinate via 27 field offices around the world.

As a celebration of our commitment to humanity we are undertaking a worldwide photo competition. Islamic Relief hopes by organizing such an event and endorsing the work not only with its own name but that of 4 prestigious photo judges from the field of documentary photography, wildlife photography and travel photography it will be able to take part in organizing a platform for the world’s talented photographers to show their work.

There will be 4 themes to choose from as well as a kids photo competition, allowing all photographers to show their creativity in which ever field of photography they prefer. Through their photographs we hope to have a selection of images that will show aspects of the human condition, culture and tradition, landscape and climate.

All winning photographers will receive a cash prize. The top five photographers for each of the themes will receive a print of their photo (photos) framed, as well as a certificate of their achievement.

The photos will appear on our Flickr site as well as Islamic Relief site until the wining images have been chosen. Winning images will then be displayed in photo exhibitions, photo journals and web sites etc. around the world.
There are is no fee for entering; we only ask that you agree to our terms and conditions in the link below. We will then send you an email which will give you a reference number and a further email address to send your images.

Theme 1 £3000 TBC
‘Caring world’ – – Judged by Tom Stoddart world renowned Documentary photographer 
Islamic Relief is a humanitarian organization, caring for people whoever and wherever they maybe. We have participated in portraying a message of unity with the communities of the world without prejudice. In this theme we hope to see a picture that shows the selflessness of individuals and people in caring for others. Within this theme we would like to see the human face of perseverance bringing hope and aspirations to others.

Theme 2  £3000 TBC
‘New Horizons’ – – Mike Yamashita 
This is a travel photography/culture theme: In this theme we would like to see images that communicate the intricate nuances of culture and tradition using photography as a medium to tell human stories as a way to span cultural divisions.

Theme 3  £3000 TBC
‘World Garden ’ – – Judged by Joel Sartore National Geographic photographer 
This is Landscape photography/wildlife photography theme: Islamic Relief would like to use the photo competition as a visual platform highlighting the exploitation of the world’s resources, ecosystems and the affects of climate change. This theme will also show the work being done to tackle the causes of climate change

Theme 4  £5000 TBC
‘Living through adversity ’ – – Amy Toensing National Geographic Photographer 
This is a Documentary photography story: With the effects of a worldwide financial downturn and the continued suffering from poverty and natural disasters, the living through adversity theme will be a glimpse into the lives of those who are living in difficult and harsh conditions and have managing to overcome.

Kids photo project £300 (1 canon camera) TBC
Kids photo project ‘What it’s like to be a kid’ The kids photo project is open to any child up to the age of 16. This photo theme is open to interpretation. It is purely for fun, a candid look at what it’s like to be a kid growing up where you are. It can be a landscape, portrait or a documentary of what it’s like to be a kid in 2009. 
“This is only open for UK residence”

Best picture prize £1000 TBC
All four judges will judge which picture wins the best overall picture prize.
